Steel look windows cost between £860 and £3,965 per window in 2026, supplied and fitted, including VAT. Single doors run from £1,800 to £2,600, French doors from £2,760 to £5,080, and French doors with side panels from £3,820 to £8,335. Three-panel bifolding doors cost between £4,300 and £7,810, and a two-panel sliding door in the steel look at around £7,500 to £9,150.
Our steel look windows and doors cost prices are for aluminium products from the UK’s best known brands. Genuine steel windows such as Crittall® are a separate product category and cost more. Internal steel look doors and screens start at around £980. They are single glazed, to a lighter specification and not keeping weather out, which makes them the cheapest way into the style by a considerable margin.
The range is wide, and that is the important part of finding our prices for these types of windows. This is the one product category where two windows that look identical in a photograph can differ in price by half. The difference is almost never the aluminium. It is the glazing bars, outer frame and sash styling, and quotations don’t always tell you which sort you are getting.

Steel look windows cost more than the same window in plain aluminium. The uplift depends on how many transoms or bars there are, whether the system is a dedicated steel look design or a standard casement with bars added, and which brand you choose. A window with twelve panes costs considerably more than the same window with four.

Single doors run between £950 and £1,375 per square metre, French doors between £730 and £1,345, and French doors with side panels between £606 and £1,325. The rate falls as the opening gets wider, because the frame and hardware are spread across more glass. Doors also vary less between brands than windows do, which makes them easier to compare on price.

Given that these products are few and far between in the genuine steel look style, we’ve quoted the three main brands. Origin OB-36, Aluco Elite and Smart Systems Visofold 6000 with the heritage sash.
For sliding doors, the only option is bars applied to the glass. The most convincing results come from a minimal bonded system such as Cortizo Cor Vision, or the Sunflex SVG20 or SVG30.
These are harder to cost because these price on overall width rather than by unit and the configuration has to be stated or the figures are meaningless.

Three-panel bifolding doors come out between £570 and £1,035 per square metre, which makes them the cheapest way to buy steel look glazing by area. Sliding doors are the most expensive way to buy steel look glazing by area, at between £1,230 and £1,505 per square metre, because there are far fewer sliding systems that work convincingly in this style.
Taken together, these prices run from £569 per square metre for a wide bifold to £3,481 for a small window. That is a spread of more than six to one within the same product category. It is why per square metre figures quoted online, commonly around £500, tell you almost nothing, and why any price without a product, a size and a specification attached is not really a price.
Why our prices look higher than the figures you have seen elsewhere
You have probably already come across aluminium windows quoted at around £350 to £600. That figure appears on most of the large home improvement websites, and at least one installer repeats it on a page specifically about Crittall style windows.
It is a supply-only price for a small, plain aluminium casement. No installation, no VAT, no cills, no trickle ventilators, no removal of your old windows, no making good and no certification. It is also not a steel look window. A plain casement and a steel look window in the same opening are separated by a considerable margin, because the transoms, the frame styling and the sash detailing all cost money.
How we arrive at our prices
Every price on this page is for a finished job in a named system at a stated size, fitted, with VAT included. It is the number that appears at the bottom of your quotation. Our prices have been obtained throughout 2026 with the website speaking to various installers around the country all offering these brands. We also receive copies of installer quotations from people getting in touch with the website who want them checked to ensure like for like, specification check and to ensure they are being quoted the right steel look window and door prices for their project. This transparency in seeing actual quotations from real businesses, makes our prices more realistic.
Of course, profit margins, location, buying power and even how much a company would like to secure your business all affect the final prices.
What these steel look window and door prices include
Removal and disposal of the existing windows or doors, new products in a standard colour with period-style handles, double-glazed units with a low-emissivity coating and warm-edge spacers, trickle ventilators where Building Regulations require them, fitting, making good internally to a reasonable standard, and FENSA or CERTASS certification. VAT at 20 per cent.
What they do not include
Scaffolding or specialist access, structural work or altered openings, plastering and external making good beyond normal finishing, non-standard colours, curved heads, bay and bow profiles, acoustic or security glass, and removal of secondary glazing or shutters. Also not included are specialist access equipment, permits for city centres and other logistical factors related to your installation.
How much more than standard aluminium windows?
This is the question most people are really asking, and it has a cleaner answer than the absolute figures.
Expect to pay roughly 25-40 per cent more for a steel look window than the identical window in plain aluminium. On a heavily divided window the uplift is larger, because the money is in the bars rather than the frame. A window with twelve panes costs considerably more than the same window with four.

How much cheaper than genuine steel and Crittall® windows?
Genuine steel is the better product. Nothing else achieves quite the same sightlines, and a well-made steel window will outlast most of the building around it. Crittall Windows Ltd has been making them since 1884 and the reputation is deserved.
It also costs considerably more. Aluminium steel look products come in around 50-80 per cent below genuine steel for a broadly similar appearance, and that gap is the entire reason this market exists.
However, there are now some fantastic steel windows and doors made in Europe that are close to the price of high-end aluminium versions. For this reason always get a steel quotation as well to compare. Contact us for details of steel window and door providers near you.
Aluminium will also generally outperform steel thermally. Steel windows typically achieve a B or C window energy rating; aluminium will do better depending on the system and the glass. What aluminium will not do is replicate steel exactly, and any supplier claiming otherwise is overselling.
Why do two steel look quotations differ by thousands?
Sometimes quotations can differ by thousands of pounds across one home improvement or new build project. It is usually down to these factors:
- The brand of windows you are buying.
- Whether a company manufactures and installs or buys in and installs
- The buying power, profit margins, installation costs and business overheads
- The types of bars fitted, transoms, duplex or ultra slim 25mm or 20mm
Some brands are cheaper than others as our price table shows, with others, being a unique system and mostly hand-finished and assembled being at the top end of the market. There are also some products that only a handful of companies make, for example the floating lock doors made by Aluco Aluminium. Prices show that Jack Aluminium Heritage Doors and some imported brands sit at the more affordable end of what steel look windows and doors cost. Origin, Reynaers and Aluco sit at the more premium end.

Whether your product also comes as a dedicated steel look system or one with just bars on the glass also affects the price you pay, and whether these products leave the factory glazed and fully finished or unglazed to fit the transom and glazing bars on site.
Dedicated systems versus a standard window with bars
The cheapest steel look window is an ordinary casement, residential or bifold door with bars applied. A dedicated steel look system is designed from the outset around the original steel aesthetic and it shows in details that are difficult to retrofit:
- A choice of frame profile, stepped, flush or putty line
- Deep bottom rails on doors, with a lock backplate behind the handle
- Sidelights and screens that read consistently with the doors beside them
- Period handles, peg stays and hinges as standard options
- Square-edged profiles rather than the rounded, chamfered edges of a modern casement
Importantly, most steel look windows and doors are based on the major systems with a very small number based on exclusive dies, profiles and designs. The latter again sits at the upper end of how much steel look windows and doors cost.

This matters most on bifolding and sliding doors. Nearly every steel look bifold is an otherwise standard door with bars on the glass. The exceptions to this are the Origin OB-36, the Smart Systems Visofold 6000 and Aluco Elite Bifold Door.
There is no dedicated aluminium system built specifically as a steel look slider, so the best results come from a genuinely slim sliding system with bars applied. Cortizo Cor Vision, Sunflex SVG20 or VG30, and any minimal bonded sliding door system works well with bars applied.
Replacing original Crittall® and old metal windows
Replacing original metal windows is a different job from a new installation, and it prices differently.
Work out what you have first. Crittall® and other manufacturers made several distinct styles . Putty line windows, hopper windows, French casements and the W20 range among them. And the replacement should reference the original rather than a generic modern casement.
The frame type matters as much as the window. Odd leg frames suit stone or hardwood surrounds where the window sits behind the opening face. Equal leg frames suit more standard openings. Getting this wrong is the commonest reason a replacement looks heavier than the window it replaced, and it is a specification decision rather than a price one.
You may also need special cills, frame extensions, or have to wonder about the trickle ventilators of the new windows, that the originals would not have had. Curved heads above windows are a significant addition to the cost as well.
Photograph everything before it comes out, including a close-up of the frame edge and the bar detail. It is the only reference you will have.

What else affects the price
Colour. Black is overwhelmingly the most popular choice and is now stocked by most manufacturers, along with white and several greys. Stock colours keep the price down and the lead time short. A non-standard colour costs more and takes longer. Textured matt finishes read closer to painted steel than smooth ones and are worth asking for.
Handles and hardware. Period-appropriate hardware is one of the marks of a good installation. Monkey tail handles, peg stays, period hinges, in black, pewter, antique or hammered finishes. They add to the price and they are worth it. Modern lever handles on an otherwise convincing steel look window undo much of the effect.
Glass. Security glass at ground floor, acoustic glass on a noisy road, higher insulation, self-cleaning or solar control glazing all add cost. On a divided window the glass rises faster than on a plain one, because there are more units.
Size and number of openers. Smaller windows cost less. Every opening element adds profile, hardware, gaskets and labour. On new openings this is worth designing around; on replacements you have less freedom.
Your property and access. Ground floor costs less than work needing towers or scaffolding. Getting large doors to the back of a terraced house with no side access is a real cost. Large panels often need lifting equipment, and there are jobs where a crane lifts a screen over the roof because there is no other route.
Where you buy. Some manufacturers make and install; others sell to installers. The expertise of your installer affects the price directly. A company selling these every week will quote more competitively than one that rarely does and treats your order as a special. Overheads, margins and region all play a part, as does whether the extrusions come from the UK or Europe.
What a good quotation should tell you
A professional quotation should cover the majority of the points below to ensure you are getting the right steel look windows and doors for your project. If authenticity matters more than the overall price, they are important in your buying decision.
- The system and product name, not just “steel look aluminium”
- Clarity on whether you are being quoted fixed window transom or applied glazing bars
- The transom or bar width in millimetres and whether bars are factory or site applied
- The frame profile styling
- Odd leg or equal leg frames for windows in stone mullions or timber subframes
- Whether doors have deep bottom rails and lock backplates
- The handle style and finish
- The glass specification and the whole-window U-value, not the glass centre pane U-value
- Trickle ventilators, included or excluded
- What making good is covered
- The guarantee, who provides it, and what happens if the installer ceases trading
