OTIF is a premium collection of internal steel doors, made in Europe. OTIF is one of the largest specialist manufacturers of steel and glass internal doors and the company focuses exclusively on internal glazing systems. The great thing about OTIF is the availability of products many steel companies don’t offer and most steel-look aluminium companies won’t provide either. OTIF produces everything from simple hinged doors to sliding systems, pivot doors, internal bifolds, room dividers, curved screens and bespoke Art Deco inspired designs.
Unlike many steel look products sold in the UK, OTIF uses genuine steel construction rather than aluminium profiles designed to imitate steel, as good as some are. The result is a collection of internal doors and screens with slim sightlines, substantial feel and an impressive level of design flexibility.
OTIF Steel Doors Review | DWE
One of the most comprehensive internal steel door systems currently available in the UK, combining genuine steel construction, extensive design flexibility and excellent manufacturing quality. The internal door types also offers more than other steel brands, including a steel bifold door.
4.5
Pros
- Available Nationwide
- Huge range of configurations and designs
- Excellent glass and hardware options
- Curved and Art Deco products available
- Consistent styling across the entire collection
Cons
- Premium pricing compared to aluminium alternatives
- Weight requires professional installation
- Some configurations may have longer lead times
We visited the OTIF showroom in Surrey, where we were able to view and photograph a broad cross-section of the range. This included hinged doors, sliding systems, pocket doors, internal bifold doors, fixed screens, curved installations and several Art Deco inspired designs.
One of the challenges with reviewing internal steel doors is that many products look similar online. Marketing photography, computer generated imagery and increasingly AI-generated visuals can make different brands appear remarkably similar. This is also the case with many online sellers.
Black frames, clear glass and slim sightlines can make one manufacturer’s offering appear much the same as another. They are not. Seeing the products side by side highlighted just how extensive the OTIF collection has become. Most manufacturers offer a handful of internal door options. OTIF have developed a solution for virtually every internal glazing application imaginable.
This review is written by Nick Dardalis, who has worked in the UK door and window industry since 1989. Every review on this site is based on direct product assessment. This is done with a combination of deep technical document examination, factory visits, showroom evaluations and real installation environments. No manufacturer pays for a review. No score is negotiated.
What Are OTIF Steel Doors?
The easiest way to think about OTIF is not as a single product, but as a complete internal glazing system.
The collection includes:
- Hinged doors
- Double doors
- Sliding doors
- Pocket doors
- Pivot doors
- Internal bifold doors
- Fixed screens
- Room dividers
- Curved glazing
- Bespoke architectural designs
Everything is manufactured using steel profiles and laminated safety glass, with production, glass processing and powder coating all handled within OTIF’s own facilities. One of the reasons brands such as Aluco have been successful is because they have managed to replicate much of the steel aesthetic using aluminium, often at a lower cost and with greater flexibility for some projects.
Steel can achieve slimmer sightlines, larger door and window sizes, accommodate complex shapes such as Gothic curves. Steel remains the usual material for fire rated internal doors.
Design and Aesthetics
The first thing that strikes you about OTIF is the sheer variety of products on display. This is not simply a collection of hinged and sliding steel look doors with different glazing bar patterns. Every product appears to have been designed for a specific purpose, from minimalist room dividers and statement pivot doors through to more decorative Art Deco inspired designs. Some of the doors are fitted with full locking systems, opening up possibilities beyond typical internal room-to-room applications.
What immediately stands out is the quality of the product. The profiles are exceptionally slim, the corner joints are neatly executed, the glazing bars integrate cleanly into the frame and the overall finish is impressive throughout. Looking closely, you can also see evidence that these are not mass-produced products simply assembled from stock components. There is a degree of craftsmanship to the way the doors are made that gives them character and individuality.
Whilst there are now numerous steel door brands available in the UK, OTIF has clearly focused on areas that many competitors either cannot offer or choose not to. Beyond the slim sightlines, there are shaped glazing bars, curved sections, ultra minimalist single pane doors and highly decorative Art Deco inspired designs. Taken together, the range feels less like a collection of individual products and more like a complete internal steel glazing system. There is also a fire rated collection available, although that falls outside the scope of this review.
The curved products deserve special mention. Curved steel glazing is extremely difficult to execute well and is one of the areas where steel retains a clear advantage over aluminium. Tight radii, shaped bars, Gothic inspired designs and more intricate detailing are often difficult or impossible to achieve convincingly using aluminium systems. The technical challenges involved mean that many manufacturers simply avoid offering these types of products altogether.
Seeing so many curved and shaped installations on display demonstrates that OTIF is capable of considerably more than producing standard black framed room dividers. Some of the most interesting products in the showroom were the curved screens and doors, which showcased the flexibility of steel and highlighted opportunities for homeowners and designers looking for something genuinely different.
The OTIF steel doors range is divided into three distinct profile styles.
Prestige
Prestige is the most minimalist collection. Using slim 20mm profiles with a 35mm depth, it is designed to maximise glass areas and natural light whilst keeping the steel framework as discreet as possible.
Large single pane designs work particularly well in contemporary homes where the objective is to divide spaces without the visual interruption of glazing bars. The result is a lighter, more open appearance whilst still creating clearly defined rooms.
Of the three OTIF profile options, Prestige will probably appeal to the widest audience. It uses a slim 20mm steel profile and large single panes of glass to create a clean, contemporary appearance without looking overly industrial.
What I like about Prestige is that it doesn’t try too hard to look like a traditional factory window. Many steel door systems lean heavily into the industrial aesthetic, with multiple glazing bars and busy designs. Prestige takes the opposite approach, using minimal framework and larger areas of glass to create a lighter and more modern look.
For homeowners looking to divide spaces without losing natural light, this is probably the most versatile profile in the range. It feels elegant rather than decorative and works equally well in contemporary homes, period renovations and open-plan interiors. And the hinged opening and closing feels remarkably smooth, with a reassuring weight to the door that only steel can really provide.
Industrial
Industrial is the style that most people associate with internal steel doors. The familiar grid-style appearance, the feature backplate with the handle on it, two or more glazing bars and bolder sightlines. This style has become one of the defining interior design trends of the last decade. It is also the style that many aluminium steel-look systems replicate.
With OTIF steel doors they use a similar profile size to the aluminium systems, with a 25mm face dimension and 45mm frame depth.
Having seen and handled this popular style in steel, this is where the difference between genuine steel and aluminium systems such as AluSpace, Origin and AluK becomes more apparent.
Whilst better-designed aluminium systems like Aluco do an excellent job of replicating the appearance of and feel of steel, it is the feel that makes this metal stand out. The additional weight, the rigidity of the profiles and the overall solidity of the construction give these doors a character that is not easy to replicate with aluminium.
The way the door opens and closes is also noticeably different. There is a reassuring weight and smoothness to the movement that immediately feels more substantial. The welded corners, slim steel sections and rigidity of the frame create an authenticity that many steel-look systems aspire to but rarely achieve. Most aluminium alternatives simply do not deliver the same sense of solidity when viewed and handled side by side. And this is what you should do when comparing aluminium brands, also go look at steel.
If you want the classic steel door aesthetic, Industrial is arguably the profile that best captures the look and feel of traditional steel glazing whilst still delivering the quality and refinement expected from a modern interior product. The larger 25mm profiles support multiple glass panes within each leaf and create a stronger industrial appearance. This collection is likely to appeal to homeowners seeking a more authentic warehouse, loft or heritage aesthetic.
Pure
Pure sits between the Prestige and Industrial collections and, for many buyers, may prove to be the most interesting profile in the OTIF range. It combines the slimmer proportions of Prestige with some of the additional flexibility and engineering features not found elsewhere in the collection.
Like Prestige, Pure uses a slim 20mm profile and maintains a clean, contemporary appearance. Where it differs is in the additional options available, including concealed hinges, stainless steel finishes and the ability to accommodate double glazing. These features make it particularly well suited to projects where aesthetics are just as important as functionality.
What I found interesting about Pure is that it doesn’t immediately announce itself as a different product. Visually, it retains the elegant and understated appearance that makes Prestige so appealing. The differences become apparent when you start looking at the specification and the finer details. Concealed hinges create a cleaner appearance, whilst the stainless steel option offers an alternative to the traditional black steel aesthetic that dominates this market.
If you like the slimmer, more minimalist look of Prestige but want greater flexibility in terms of finishes and specification, Pure offers an attractive middle ground. It has the elegance of the slimmest profile whilst introducing features that allow it to be tailored to more bespoke or design-led interiors. These include bars, obscure glass, solid metal panels and other options.
In many ways, Pure feels like the most architectural of the three profile options. It is less overtly industrial than the Industrial collection and slightly more sophisticated in its detailing than Prestige, making it a strong choice for contemporary homes where the steel glazing is intended to complement the architecture rather than become the dominant feature.
How Do OTIF Steel Doors Feel?
This is where brochures, websites and specification sheets stop being useful. If you’re considering internal steel doors, especially if you’re also looking at aluminium alternatives, we strongly recommend seeing both products in person before making a decision.
One thing photographs cannot properly convey is the difference between genuine steel and aluminium steel look products. Having handled both extensively over the years, the OTIF doors immediately feel more substantial than most aluminium alternatives. That is not necessarily a reason on its own to choose steel over aluminium, but it does help explain why steel remains the benchmark that every aluminium steel look system is trying to emulate.
Aluminium has come a long way and some systems do an excellent job of replicating the appearance of steel. However, when you start opening and closing the doors, handling the hardware and looking closely at the construction, the differences become more apparent. The weight, rigidity and overall feel of the product are simply different. If aluminium is the replica, steel is still the original.
The hinged doors felt reassuringly solid without being difficult to operate. There is a smoothness and weight to the movement that immediately inspires confidence. The sliding systems moved quietly and effortlessly, whilst the pivot doors delivered exactly the sort of architectural statement buyers expect from this type of product.
What impressed us most was the consistency across the range. Whether looking at a simple hinged door, a decorative Art Deco design or a large glazed screen, the attention to detail remained the same throughout. The powder coated finish appeared excellent, welds were neat and unobtrusive, and the hardware felt appropriately premium for the market sector OTIF occupies.
The glass also deserves mention. Examined closely, it appeared to be of a very high standard, with clean edges, excellent clarity and the quality you would expect from a specialist manufacturer producing its own glass units. Combined with the slim steel profiles, the result is a collection of products that look every bit as premium as their price positioning suggests.
With a few notable exceptions such as Aluco, most aluminium steel look systems simply don’t deliver the same feeling of solidity when viewed side by side.
Features
One of OTIF’s greatest strengths is the breadth of the range. Many internal steel door brands focus primarily on hinged and sliding doors and fixed screens. OTIF goes considerably further, offering one of the most complete collections of internal steel glazing products currently available.
The range includes single and double hinged doors, sliding doors, pocket doors, pivot doors, fixed screens and internal bifold doors. The bifold system is particularly noteworthy because very few steel door manufacturers offer a genuine steel folding door solution. For homeowners looking to open up larger internal spaces whilst retaining the appearance of steel glazing, this is a significant advantage.
Beyond the opening styles themselves, there is an impressive level of customisation. You can choose from minimalist single pane designs, traditional industrial layouts, shaped glazing bars, curved sections and more decorative Art Deco inspired patterns. Glass options are equally comprehensive, such as clear, fluted, wired, smoked and obscure designs. Privacy levels vary in every home and glass can be tailored to suit.
The hardware collection is equally comprehensive, with a variety of handles, pulls and concealed grip options available depending on the door type. Certain products can also be specified with locking systems, making them suitable for home offices, studies, en-suites and other spaces where privacy or restricted access may be required.
What ultimately sets OTIF apart is not any individual feature, but the fact that all these options sit within one steel system. Whether specifying a simple kitchen door, a curved room divider, a steel bifold or a large glazed screen, there is a product to suit. And as the below image gallery of the close up design features show, the entire collection is of the same high manufacturing standard.
Its the internal bifold system that is of real interest as so few steel systems as a bifold exist.

Security and Energy Efficiency
Because OTIF products are designed primarily for internal use, security and thermal performance is not primary considerations in this case. There are no PAS 24 ratings or U-values to consider.
Instead, buyers should focus on durability, safety and privacy. The use of laminated safety glass throughout the range is reassuring, whilst the strength of the steel construction provides a product designed for long term everyday use. Locking systems will primarily depend on use, for example doors in bathrooms, en-suites, home office and so on.

Other Products to Consider with OTIF Steel Doors
The steel market is now very mature and there are many brands to choose from so this would be a very long list . So as this website is read nationwide, it is only fair to focus on brands that supply nationwide or via a dealer network.
Crittall® Internal Steel Doors
The original and most recognised name in steel glazing, and the brand all these products want to replicated. With over a century of British manufacturing heritage. Crittall internal doors feature slim proportions and a long history. Every door is handcrafted at their UK facility via a dealer network or specific manufacturers.
Available in black, greys or any RAL colour with clear, frosted or reeded glass and classic bar layouts. Crittall does not currently offer a bifold or any folding door option, so if you need internal steel bifolds, you will need to look elsewhere. Pricing is substantially higher than OTIF, expect to pay from around £2,700 per single internal door based on reported dealer quotes, with double doors and screens considerably more. Crittall is the genuine product, the benchmark in this market and the price and quality reflects it.
Fabco Sanctuary Internal Steel Doors
A UK manufacturer based in Littlehampton, West Sussex, specialising in W20 hot-rolled steel doors, windows and screens. Fabco uses steel sections hot-rolled in Switzerland from 98% recycled material, with all products galvanised and powder coated in-house. Internal doors are available as hinged, sliding or pocket configurations.
The W20 system is the slimmest hot-rolled steel framing system available, with glazing bars welded into the frame for authentic construction. Fabco has been featured on Grand Designs. Pricing for internal doors starts from around £2,500 for a single door, with double doors from £4,000 and larger screen installations from £8,000–£10,000+, all supply only. A genuine British-made steel alternative at a higher price point than OTIF but with traditional hot-rolled construction.
Schüco Jansen Internal Steel Doors
The Jansen Art’15 system is Schüco Jansen’s dedicated internal partition and door product, designed specifically for residential and commercial interiors. For non-fire-rated internal applications, the Janisol and Jansen Economy systems offer slim 60mm profile depths with elegant sightlines. The Schüco Jansen range is a systems product.
It is not manufactured by Schüco directly but fabricated by approved partners from Jansen steel profiles. This means quality can vary depending on the fabricator. The range is comprehensive and covers doors, screens, partitions and curved elements. Pricing is on application through Schüco Jansen fabricators and is typically at the premium end of the market. If you are specifying through an architect or working on a high-end project, Schüco Jansen is worth discussing at design stage.
RK Steel Internal Doors
RK Steel is the internal door division of RK Door Systems, based in Swansea. All products are handcrafted using steel and glass with slim frameworks designed to maximise natural light. The range covers hinged doors (including FD30 fire-rated options), pivot doors, sliding doors and bifold doors.
RK Steel is a well-regarded UK brand with a showroom in Swansea and products available through dealers nationwide. A strong competitor to OTIF with a similar range of door types, though as a handcrafted product rather than a systemised manufacturing operation, lead times and pricing may vary.
Who Should Buy OTIF Steel Doors?
Homeowners wanting genuine steel rather than aluminium steel-look doors.
Interior designers seeking curved, Art Deco or bespoke designs.
Buyers wanting one consistent system throughout the home.
Anyone considering premium aluminium systems and wondering whether steel is worth the extra investment.
Conclusion, More Information, Where to View and Buy
What is interesting today is that the price of steel internal doors is getting closer to premium aluminium brands. So whilst steel is a real investment and not cheap, the point is, that many websites and marketing messages continue to comment on the high cost and long lead times of steel.
The reality in 2026, is that for some brands prices are not as sky high as implied and the lead times are better. However, you must remember theses are largely all hand made, welded and the manufacturing process is considerably longer. Don’t disregard getting a quote for steel doors if you are considering aluminium. A lot has changed in the last few years as this product group has matured and is now widely available, because Crittall®, aluminium steel look, internal doors and screens such as OTIF are a trend that is here to stay.
After spending substantial time with the products in the Surrey showroom, the overall impression is extremely positive. What impressed most was not a particular profile, handle or glass option. It was the fact that OTIF appears to have considered virtually every internal glazing requirement and developed a solution for it. Few brands offer such a complete family of products and for homeowners, this product comes highly recommended.
For installers and showrooms looking to expand beyond aluminium steel-look products, OTIF is certainly worth considering.
Whether you’re looking for a simple internal door, a statement room divider or a complex curved installation, OTIF provides a level of flexibility that is genuinely unusual within the market.
With so many AI and computer generated images now appearing on websites, especially for internal doors, you need to be clear about what you are buying. That is why we always strongly recommend seeing the products in person before making a decision. The quality, proportions and detailing are best appreciated first hand.
